Ukulele/Ukulele-Bass

The ukulele is a member of the lute family originated in the 19th century as a Hawaian adaption of the Portuguese cavaquinho, a small guitar like instrument which was introduced to Hawai by Portuguese immigrants.

The Hawaian name "ukulele" means "jumping flea" - possibly due to the speedy movement of the fingers on the fretboard.

The ukulele-bass (u-bass) is a relatively new form and properly speaking no ukulele but a miniaturized e- or acoustic bass tuned in EADG.

It is unplugged quite low-voiced and needs an amplifier to be heard while playing with other instruments.

Die Ukulele ist ein gitarrenähnliches Zupfinstrument und hat seinen Ursprung im 19. Jahrhundert als hawaianische Ureinwohner die von portugiesischen Einwanderern mitgebrachte Cavaquinho nachbauten.

Sie nannten es liebevoll "Hüpfender Floh" = Ukulele) - wohl aufgrund der sich schnell über das Griffbrett bewegenden Finger.

Der Ukulelen-Bass (U-Bass) ist eine relativ neue Form und strenggenommen keine Ukulele, sondern ein verkleinerter E- bzw. Akustikbass, gestimmt in EADG.

Akustisch klingt er recht leise und muss verstärkt werden, wenn er sich anderen Instrumenten gegenüber durchsetzen soll.
